The SharePoint Brand Center provides a central point for managing your organisations brand. The most notable feature the ability to add custom fonts to SharePoint and Viva Connections. It also allows easy creation of custom colour themes and a place to manage your branding resources in Microsoft 365.

Setup the Brand Center

Configuration is done in the Microsoft 365 Admin Centre and requires a Global Administrator to complete the setup. Go to Settings > Org Settings > Brand Center.

The Microsoft Public CDN (Content Delivery Network) is required as part of the implementation. This often raises a concern, this article has an overview of the Microsoft Public CDN. Note the comment about anonymous access. Microsoft uses this for font files, and does not move any content from SharePoint to the Public CDN (this remains in your tenant).

Because the Brand Centre is a SharePoint site, you can delegate access to this site to your brand owners e.g. Corp Comms or Marketing. You can also enable Organisation Asset Libraries to create a central point for managing templates and approved images.

Bring your own Fonts

The biggest benefit of the Brand Centre is the ability to bring your own fonts to SharePoint and Viva Connections. The intent is to allow your organisation to use your own fonts to your sites.

The built in preview is great for setting how your fonts will look. There is also an accessibility checker to help ensure your designs are usable by all. In my example below, the font choice is obviously not going to win any awards, but it does help highlight where the fonts will appear. I suggest making a different font choice for your Intranet!

Easy Theme Creation

The Brand Centre makes it much easier to create a custom theme. In the designer you can select your corporate brand colours and preview them easily. The theme editor also give tips on accessibility.

The Brand Centre is a welcome improvement to SharePoint Online and an important part of the overall make SharePoint more beautiful stream of improvements from Microsoft.
