Copilot in SharePoint allows you to create an Agent that can answer questions from content that you collate in a Document Library or SharePoint site. In this video I demonstrate how to create a Copilot Agent to help with questions about construction near waterways. It can answer questions related to best practices, work standards and regulatory compliance requirements .
The thing I like the most about creating Agents in SharePoint is the control I have over the content that is used for responses. Using trusted content from known sources. There are no issues with random responses from low quality or irrelevant content from the internet or other sites within your own Microsoft 365 Tenant.
Once you have created your Agent, make it available to others by adding a link on your Intranet or pin it to a channel in Teams (get the sharing link from the Agent file in the library).
Here are some ideas I have for using this feature:
- Policies and Standards Agent – use your Policies and Standards Libraries as the content source. People in your organisation can ask questions rather than having to search.
- RFP Response Agent – Create a Microsoft Team collaborating on an RFP response and use an Agent to help ask questions about the requirements and to cross check your response (I do this and it saves a lot of time).
- Customer Services Agent – Curate a library of content to help answer common questions your Customer Services team respond to.
Once you have created the Agent, make sure you review the content regularly to ensure it is still current and meets your requirements. Controlled content with review processes is good candidate for this.
Extra for experts
The Agent I create in the video requires no-code and is easy for non-technical people to create. You can extend Copilot Agents using Copilot Studio, adding external data sources including websites, Confluence, Service Now and other custom data sources.
